Instructors' Expectation of Cadets

What do the JROTC instructors expect from each cadet? Broadly speaking, you are expected to:

1. Make mistakes; learn from them. Do not repeat them.

2. Not quit on yourself. Keep a positive spirit. Good days follow bad days. Today's troubles are mere, temporary inconveniences and will pass. Stay mentally strong. Overcome these short-term challenges with will-power.

3. Focus on your academics. Be serious about studying and homework.

4. Be respectful, courteous and polite at all times. Having a bad day is not an excuse to be rude, angry, hostile, or discourteous to others. You wouldn't want someone else in a bad mood take it out on you; so don't take it out on others.

5. Keep a sense of humor... especially when nothing seems to go right.

6. Say or do something nice and positive for other cadets. "Elevate" others whenever, however you can: don't put them down.

7. Follow school rules and remind your friends to do so too.

8. Possess honor, moral courage (doing what's right), and integrity (being honest). Have confidence in your convictions, values and beliefs. Stand for something positive.

9. Appreciate your citizenship rights, privileges, and responsibilities.

10. Participate in JROTC to the fullest extent your schedule and family obligations allow.

11. Achieve and maintain a high level of physical fitness.

12. Be safe and aware of your surroundings. Stop any unsafe behaviors you witness.

13. Wear your complete uniform correctly, with pride. Conduct yourself so as not to bring discredit upon JROTC, your fellow cadets, your family or yourself.

14. Know JROTC basics- proper uniform wear, honors to the flag, drill, ranks and awards, military courtesies, and your chain of command.

15. Leading when you are in a leadership position, practice loyal followership, and be a member of the cadet team at all times.
